Fashion Show Recap - Appreciations and Thank Yous

It was soooooo amazing! Videos and Pics coming soon.

Background:
After learning the relevant vocabulary and grammar, my students planned a Fashion Show completely in Spanish and presented last night at our school. They picked a thematic outfit, described it in spanish, including the color, cost, fabric and brand, and wrote a fashion show script all in spanish. Students then recorded their scripts into the computer, edited the sound, mixed it with the sound, and added music. They then set it up and modeled their clothes while their sound played and then had to answer 1-4 questions on the spot about their outfit in Spanish. ALL IN SPANISH.

Re cap:
Around 45 students presented! We had Winter Wear, Too Sexy Rohland, Mario & Luigi, Ninjas, Athletes, Pajama wear, summer wear, formal, business, struts on the catwalk, jumps, rolls, autotuned voices, lots of songs, a barrel roll, and smiles, etc.) They also defended their knowledge by answering on the spot questions. Student improvised when technology failed by reading each others scripts (laura and cindy) and other just held the mic and described their clothes in spanish on the spot (julian, enandi, wambui)

Thanks yous:
There were guest judges (thanks to rodrigo, daisy, dan, marijke, cesar, and jessica) There was Decor Galore, lights, posters and signs, (thanks to anthony, kamau, darrell, alexis, bryan, edward) The audience was packed (20+ parents, daryl, yusef, ainye, jonny, anne, art students, my friend daivid and ryan, my mom) and there was only standing room for the first half of the show. We had to get extra chairs!

There were performances (thanks to wambui on guitar, mike, jeremy, and derrick for rapping, and 3 steppers) Students hosted (thanks to Lamar, Tamia and Maceo) Program were printed (thanks to anna)

Rubrics were made (thanks to mom, and rohya) Music was recorded (thanks to Thomas, Delicia, Kalid, Zach) and the music was all mixed (thanks to Thomas) and the sound was ran by students (Jamal and Thomas again) Video was shot (thanks to morgan and tyrell pier)

Snacks were provided (thanks to Zinnermom and my my mom) Students greeted (thanks to Bryan) Banners and Decoration was put up (thanks to emma and crew) Students did thing thing. I was so proud to see them and hear the great feedback.

Thanks to everyone who attended and helped out. The students, parents and I greatly appreciated it.

New Homework Policy - Mandatory Study Tables (After School)

Our rate for turning in Homework, in time has been, extremely low and this is unacceptable for success in Spanish. We surveyed out students and discovered that students need more assistance and a space to work on their homework. Working together with the Math Department, Spanish class will be starting a new homework policy.
Students will not only be expected to turn in every assignment, but they will be required to stay after school if do not complete their assignments on time, details are on the document above. If for any reason your student/child cannot attend after school sessions, please contact myself,
joe@envisionacademy.org or by phone at 510-596-8901.

Students who accumulate multiple Mandatory Study Tables (MSTs) will have their parents notified, be required to attend Saturday Schools, and ultimately loose priveledges such as the ability to go to dances, play on team sports, and attend Fun Field Trips.

We will keep you updated on how the new system affects students' completion of Homework.
Thanks for your support!

Fall Semester Finals and Fall Grades

FINALS
Finals Took Place January 13th-15th and students studies like they never have studied before. Many came after-school and during lunches. 23 students attended a Special Saturday Review Session to prepare for their Spanish Final. They asked questions, reviewed notes, looked over tests, made between 50-150 flash cards, and studied their hardest. As a result, almost all students passed the 8 page final. Many students received As and Bs.

High scores in each class will be announced and recognition of all students with As.

Spanish 2 Final Spanish%202%20Midterm%20Fall%202009.doc

FINAL GRADES
Students stepped up to the challenge of a difficult cumulative final, and many were able to raise their grades. In the end, 85% of students in Spanish received, As, Bs, and Cs! Only a few student were not able to pass, but these are great grades for the final. Next semester, we hope to have a handful of Cs and mostly As, and Bs. Students can ask personally for their grades, and official grades should be in the mail this week. Parent Conferences are scheduled for next week. Look for Mr. Truss for any questions related to Spanish class.
